Wow. What a FUN weekend we had!
Jeremiah was planning on spending the weekend elk hunting, but in the end decided he just had to much going on and didn’t want to go for a second weekend in a row.
I really wanted some elk meat for the year, but, I was really glad to have him home for the weekend too 🙂 Oh well.
So last thursday afternoon we found a package on the front steps after getting home from school. It was addressed to Jeremiah so I left it in the entryway for him.
When he got home from work and opened it we discovered that our good friend from Ohio had sent a halloween costume for each of the kids! Thankfully, I was behind and hadn’t gotten costumes yet 🙂 They are really nice costume too and super cute!
The kids were thrilled and Linus wore his for the next 3 days straight.
Here they are posing right after we opened the box:
I realize we are a little biased. But we think Christian was the cutest lion EVER.
I have never seen a prettier princess dress and Linus was a Top Gun Pilot, which he was quite pleased about.
On saturday evening our church put on a Fall Festival which was SO much fun. It was exactly the kind of thing we used to do for Halloween when I was growing up. Just good clean fun 🙂
There was all kinds of games for the kids to play, which Christian discovered one he could actually sort of do and realized that he got candy for doing it, so he just kept looping back through the one line and doing it over and over again the entire night.
There was also a pumpkin carving contest, a chili cook off, and a sort of apple-bobbing-but-not contest that Linus and Jeremiah participated in. Linus tried really hard, but he was up against some much older people and the poor thing didn’t have a chance:
But I was proud of him for trying.
Then of course there is Halloween night. I was cracking up that morning because Linus and Juliette had been counting down the days all week. Then on Halloween, they totally forgot about the whole thing! Nothing was said all morning. I finally told them because I wanted them to clean their rooms and being the extremely mean mom that I am I told them if their rooms weren’t clean they were not going trick or treating.
They cleaned them.
Linus was quick about it, Juliette not so much. BUT she didn’t cry when I told her to do it and that is a huge step for her so I was mostly happy with the length of time it took her. She did however keep trying to sneak things into the wrong bin in an effort to speed the process up but I don’t consider that to be cleaning, more just shifting things around, so things took extra long in her room because she kept having to redo them. It all eventually got done properly.
And everyone got to trick or treat.
Christian had never been trick or treating so he really didn’t know what was going on at first, except that he had to wear this lion costume and he wasn’t to happy about that.
But once I said, “Follow brother and sissy and go get candy.” He perked right up and followed along. Once he experienced what happens, he promptly marched his way up to each and every doorstep and held his bag open for candy:
The next house after the one pictured above, there happened to be a life-size Chewbacca sitting in a chair up against the garage door. Jeremiah and I spotted it and were in the process of trying to figure out if there really was someone in it or if it was just a prop, when Linus of course has to go investigate.
He cautiously walked up to it, then turned around to tell us he didn’t think it was real, when it actually did move!
Jeremiah and I, of course saw it and were like, “Oh, ok sounds good (wink, wink)” Hoping he was going to get a good scare.
Chewbacca moved but didn’t jump out or anything so Linus didn’t get to scared. We were a slight bit disappointed.
So Linus just walked past him with a big smile. Juliette took a wide arch around him to get to the door for candy and Christian would go anywhere near the thing and clutched onto my leg until we moved to the next house.
It was a great costume!
All in all it was a great night. The kids had fun. Mom and dad had fun watching the kids have fun.
We have tons of candy.
Tons.
And tons.
