Hey All!
Last week I promised a post on the Bed and Breakfast’s we stayed at on our journey across the country. While I would love to lump it all together in one post, I have a feeling it would get super duper long so I will simply start with one. My favorite one. Also the first one we stayed at, I love going chronologically whenever possible, so it makes sense all around.
The End Iron Bed and Breakfast in Salina, Kansas.
This was our first stop on the humid side of the country 🙂 and I don’t know if you’ve ever driven through Kansas before but it takes a REALLY looooooong time. It is a huge state and in the past when we’ve driven through it it’s been totally brown, dry and nothing to be seen. This year, despite it being August we got to see a little different side of Kansas, it was green. Colorado was green as well and it was all a little odd. I didn’t know Kansas could get green, but it was beautiful!
Could it be a well kept secret?Â
We also stopped in the little town my mom lived in for a couple years and went and saw her old house (she remembered the street name so we were able to find it) and her old school and she excitedly told us how she would walk to school along this road and played at that park. That was pretty neat and it seemed like a really nice little town!
Back to the B&B though….
We simply loved this place. It was on a nice, quiet street and we were able to walk to dinner at a fabulous Italian place. It was a bit of a walk for the kids but not too bad.Â
The whole house was decorated with wonderful taste:
and it was so comfortable – especially after being on the road for several days already – it felt amazing to feel like we were at home again. Don’t you love this staircase?!
There was a wonderful baby grand player piano:
And a chicken. Loved these! They’re footstools:
They had quite a few rooms and we were able to get rooms for my parents and ourselves and my sister and her friend, Brianna who came along for the adventure. This was our room:
You can see the french doors next to our bed on the left of the photo, that was a small bedroom with a double bed and the couch had a pullout bed so this particular room could sleep 6. All the rooms were gorgeous and cozy and had air conditioning, a must in August!Â
There was also a wonderful bathroom with wonderfully plush towels and a jacuzzi tub:Â
Breakfast was served in the formal dining room and was delicious. Unlimited coffee (yay!), tea and juice and of course, excellent service! We had a sweet potato hash with fried eggs, fruit, yogurt, granola with fresh berries, an apple sweet bread, fresh sausages… (if I am remembering correctly) and I am now completely addicted to sweet potato hash.Â
Goodness that is some good stuff.
We all left that breakfast completely satisfied and happy and this is a crowd of breakfast lovers, and while we aren’t picky eaters, we are particular about how things are done (Just ask my husband who had to travel with all of us! He was a good sport though.)
But we loved it, every bit of it.
I’m sorry I didn’t get a photo of the table before we ate…but I didn’t think about until we were about heading out the door. At least it’s been tidied up but it was beautifully set before we came along, obviously the nice china was removed before my hooligans children sat down, although they still got to drink juice out fancy cups, which they were thrilled about:
So if you are going through Salina, Kansas and need a place to stop and rest your weary self, I highly highly recommend The End Iron bed and breakfast. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
