I realize it has been a loooonnnnggg time since I last posted. A very long time.
But I have a couple excuses and I think they’re pretty decent ones 😉
The first one being, I had a baby.
On May 18th we had a beautiful baby girl. She was born at home, in a kiddie pool with a midwife. Yup I had her in a kiddie pool. It worked great. They say the transition from the womb is much easier on the baby when born in the water and then the water also acts as a natural pain reliever for mom. Seriously, it was amazing. I’ve done the epidural thing, I’ve done the completely natural with no pool thing and I have to say the water was almost as good as an epidural.
I loved it.
My family loved it too. There was a little more work involved for my husband because he had to get our bedroom ready and set up the pool but in the end he really liked the whole thing. He was able to sit on the couch and read his book, the kids played downstairs with both their grandma’s and Auntie Em and I was able to hang out in my room, by myself, on my bed or wherever I wanted to be until things started rolling.
Once things did get going it all happened very quickly. We didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl, we’re a little old fashioned that way and have not found out with any of our kids. The boys naturally said they wanted another brother but they didn’t seem like they REALLY cared all that much, they were just excited to have a baby.
Juliette however desperately wanted a sister. She prayed almost every single night for a sister. The few nights she didn’t, it was because she was praying for a brother so she could get a cat. She really wants a cat too so I told her if she ended up with another brother then she could have a cat. So there were a few times she changed her mind for a day or two, but most of the time she prayed for a sister.
She even had a little dress (I have no idea where she acquired it) picked out for her sister and hung it in her closet and she told everyone that she was going to have a baby sister and her name was Scarlett but she can’t really say Scarlett and would pronounce it Sshhhcarlett and then everyone thought she was saying Charlotte so then I would have to pipe in and say, “Actually we don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy and we haven’t decided on a name yet.” I was rooting for Elena.
The kids actually came in and watched the last part of the birth and got to see her come out and when she did and Jeremiah said, “Juliette you have a sister!” I said, “Really?!” (I really thought she was going to be a boy) and according to my mother-in-law, Juliette just about passed out. She really didn’t know how to react.
She was in shock for a few hours.
Then after the baby was all cleaned up and we did indeed decide to name her Scarlett, Juliette came out of the shock and then went into another little state about the fact that I didn’t have any pink things out for her sister. Since I thought she was going to be a boy, and I was sure about it ;), I didn’t bother getting any little girlie things out of the closet! Ha!
Juliette was appalled.
She solved the problem by bringing her special lovie, named, “Seece” in for Scarlett. It’s a pink receiving blanket. So the only pink Scarlett had for her first few days was her sister’s favorite blanket which, although clean (thanks to Grandma Dana), is all stained and ripped up and stitched back together by Nana. I thought it was perfect.
Everything was perfect. I wouldn’t change a single little tiny thing.
The second reason I haven’t been posting is because we moved. My husband is going back to school to get his Ph.D. so we had to move near the school he’s going to be attending.
It was tough timing but we are completely in LOVE with our new place.
We have 11 acres and a huge, beautiful house with a kitchen that is at least double my last one and a nice big pantry, double ovens and a 5 burner gas range. Yay!
Jeremiah already built a chicken coop/goat shed and put up a pen for the goats. We had goats for about 5 days. The nanny was a royal pain in the you-know-what to milk so I took her back. I think I was pretty successful with her but I just didn’t want to deal with the drama. So we are all set for goats, we just need to find a couple.
I am also planning to get a few laying hens and then eventually get a vegetable garden going.
The property here is amazing. I cannot believe how the Lord provided just the perfect place for us. We see deer every day, I have seen elk and red tail hawks, we have two beaver dams on the creek that runs through the property. Apparently there is a bear family that lives at the top of the property (thankfully they don’t come down this way!), the first day we were here we noticed hummingbirds buzzing the back porch and realized the previous tenants must have had a feeder for them so we quick got one and now get to watch the hummingbirds come in to feed.
On top of all that the place is just gorgeous! The back deck overlooks the property and is large enough to have our patio set and BBQ on and I have been using the other end of it as my gym – I LOVE working out in the sunshine every day!
So now that we are mostly unpacked and I am recovered from child birth and figuring out how to manage 4 children, I have started cooking again, I figure I need to start posting! So hopefully you will be seeing lots of yummy new things on here soon.
