So I decided to sort of take the weekend off from housekeeping a little bit. Which was good and bad. Good in that I got a little break but bad in that there was double the amount of everything on Monday morning when I went to catch up. Except laundry, the folding of laundry was probably easily multiplied by 10. I thought I would be clever and keep washing as I normally do and just wait to fold it all. So I had a mountain of laundry ready and waiting to be folded yesterday morning. I started it at one point and then got distracted with something else and then something else and then we had to leave for gymnastics and then it was lunch time and then it was nap time and I have a very strict, no work during nap time rule (unless I am baking, I will break rules for dessert) so of course no folding then. After nap I started again only to remember that I wanted to cook a turkey breast with stuffing for dinner and Linus had hockey so it needed to be done by about 1745 so it could be eaten so I had to get that going and then one thing led to another and it was 2100 and I wanted to go to bed but had all this laundry that I was really quite determined to have out of my room. So I came up with an idea.
This is the thing. Since we move often and will continue moving often in the course of the next 15 or so years, Jeremiah and I decided not to purchase actual dressers. He has thing about particle board so we can’t get cheap ones and if we get nice ones then they’ll eventually get dinged up anyway and are a pain to move. So we opted, instead to supply each bedroom with those wire things that you make into cubes, so we all have one of those with bins each cube. The boys have about 8 and Jules has 4. Well in the process of a) putting laundry away and b)looking for clothes both Linus and Juliette’s clothes end up shoved in the bins haphazardly. So I often find myself folding clothes and thinking, why the heck am I doing this? They are just going to throw them in the bins and they won’t be folded in about 10 minutes anyway.
So last night, I set 3 laundry baskets out next to my pile and I folded my laundry and Jeremiah’s and Christian’s diapers. But everything else I threw into the baskets. One for Linus, one for Juliette and one for Christian. Then I stuck the baskets at the foot of each of their beds and when they got up in the morning they got sent in to put it all away. Worked great.
The other little idea that Jeremiah came up with is about Juliette. She is at that point in her little 2 year old life that she loves putting together her own outfits, which means she changes often so that she has more opportunity to put together an outfit. They are usually quite….colorful. So every time she goes potty, she changes outfits, completely, top to bottom is all new clothes. Well this creates a lot of laundry for me because I can’t always keep track of what is actually dirty and what was worn for 30 seconds and can be put back in her bins. So this morning while she was distracted downstairs getting her princess costume on out of the playroom dress-up clothes I organized all her bins and pulled out 3 outfit options (Only two are showing since she found them by the time I took the pictures):
I put all her bins WAY up high in her closet (I am hoping the little monkey won’t figure it out and climb up there, but I am taking my chances)
