OH shoot, you better make these. Unless you are like dieting or something, cause you won’t be able to stop eating them! I told myself I will have only one. Only one. Only one.
Right.
I ate like 3. Maybe 3 and a half. Let’s not get specific.
These are so completely delicious.
So the original recipe from The Pioneer Woman said to use those little frozen dinner rolls that you can buy in the frozen section that come in the orange package – I don’t know what the brand is since I never buy them. That would be a very quick and easy way to make the buns, but since I am a firm believer in whole grains and am always making bread anyway, I always make the rolls myself using my favorite bread recipe, which I will try to get posted tomorrow and will add a link so you can go straight over from here.
FOR THE SAUCE- ⅓ cups Mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons Ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (less If You're Sensitive To Spice!)
FOR THE MUSHROOMS - 4 Tablespoons Butter
- ½ whole Medium Onion, Finely Diced
- 8 ounces, crimini Mushrooms, Chopped Finely
- ½ cups White Or Red Wine (optional)
- 4 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
- Kosher Salt And Freshly Ground Black Pepper
FOR THE PATTIES - 1 pound Ground Beef
- ½ pound ground pork
- 4 Tablespoons Heavy Whipping Cream
- 4 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
- Freshly Ground Black Pepper
FOR SERVING - 4 slices Swiss Cheese, Cut Into Four Squares
- 8 whole Dinner (or Slider) Rolls, Split
TO MAKE THE SAUCE- In a small bowl mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup and cayenne pepper. Stick in the fridge until ready to serve.
TO MAKE THE MUSHROOM TOPPING AND PATTIES - Next melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and mushrooms and saute until soft.
- Add the wine, worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, allow to simmer until the liquid is gone.
- Meanwhile, mix the meats with the whipping cream, worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper and form into small palm size patties.
- Once the mushroom mixture is ready, remove from pan and set aside. In the same pan add the patties and fry until cooked through.
TO SERVE - Place a patty on a dinner roll, top with mushrooms, a slice of cheese, spread some of the sauce on the top half of the roll and place on top.
