This is a recipe that I got from my brother-in-law, Matt ages ago, I have no idea where he came up with the recipe but Matt always has some tasty idea up his sleeve so it wouldn’t surprise me if it was his own recipe, we have collaborated on many recipes together over the years.
Usually it involves him having this insanely delicious sounding idea and presenting it to me and then I get all excited thinking about the possibilities and send him off to the store to get supplies while our spouses roll their eyes and sit back and wait to be taste testers.
This punch is delicious, it is sweet and it is very popular. My mom has served this at weddings, we have both served it at rehearsal dinners and many other parties and it always gets rave reviews.
- 5 cups sugar
- 6 cups water
- 6 lemons, juiced
- 1 quart Orange Juice
- 2 cups pineapple juice
- 6 bananas
- 1 bottle (2 liter size) sprite (you CAN use sparkling water for a less sugary option but it does go flat a bit faster, this is what I tend to do though)
- In a large saucepan, combine the water and sugar and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar dissolves and then remove from the heat and allow to cool.
- Meanwhile combine the bananas and lemon juice in a blender and pulse a few times to puree, but keep it a little bit chunky.
- Combine the banana mixture, orange and pineapple juice and the water/sugar syrup and put into 4 quart size ziploc bags. Place in the freezer and freeze till solid.
- About an hour before serving remove the bags from the freezer and allow to thaw slightly.
- To serve, remove the punch mixture from the bags and place in a punch bowl (I just dump them straight in to the bowl) and pour the sprite over the top, stir a bit to combine and you are good to go!
