Coming Out of the Mist

Share

This has been a rather blah week for me. I don’t know what’s up, but I just haven’t been able to get going.

Until today.

Not that I have been surprisingly peppy today by any means but I certainly don’t feel as worn out as the past few days. So I feel like the fog is lifting! Yay!

I sort of think it may have something to do with the fact that Christian has been getting up at odd hours. In the last couple months, sleep has been hit or miss and I think maybe it is just catching up to me. I moved him to the basement last week because it was getting so bad. He was waking up at 5:15am on the dot every morning and he would wake Linus up too. But Linus no longer takes naps and has school in the afternoons so it was REALLY wearing on HIM.

So down to the basement went Christian.

For some reason he seems to sleep better down there anyway. So for now it’s working.

At some point I’ll get him moved back upstairs.

So it is because of this lack of enthusiasm that I have not been posting. I also have not really been cooking so there really hasn’t been much going on around here anyway.

I did however get my grain mill last week and I have playing around with that a bit.

LOVE it!

How did I survive before this thing?

I don’t have all my grain yet, they will be coming in at the beginning of April. But until then I did manage to get my hands on a back of wheat berries so I have been experimenting with those.

The flavor of the bread is so amazing. I don’t think I will ever be able to eat store bought bread again.

I also tried making bagels yesterday, but that was a bit of a flop. Again the flavor was great but I wasn’t happy with the texture so I’ll have to try those again soon.

Linus and I also did a little planting. He is my little gardener. He was given some strawberry seeds which he excitedly planted one day after school. He thought it would be a good idea to keep them up in his room. I informed him of the possible consequences of doing so, but he did it anyway.

While he was at hockey, guess what happened? Juliette and Christian got into the pot and dumped everything all over.

No more strawberry seeds.

Linus was devastated.

So the next day we went to walmart and I got some strawberry plants and a few other seeds that I wanted and we planted them and are keeping them up, away from little hands, in the kitchen window.

I am happy to say that my lettuce has already sprouted!

In this haze of exhaustion, one night Jeremiah and I found ourselves searching ALL over the house for a pacifier a.k.a. sucker at bedtime. Christian was screaming like he was about to die and we looked at each other and Jeremiah said, “Let’s just cut him off.” I think I stopped and stared at him like he was crazy for a second and then said, “Ok.”

And that, was that.

So on top of being worn out completely I now had a cranky little boy on my hands. But that’s cool.

I no longer have to go searching for the wretched things anymore and he is already starting to talk a little more and be a little more creative.
