Ok so.
As if I don’t have enough projects…crocheting a massive rug for my living room, raising ducklings and chicks, new baby goats, milking, a blog, homeschooling a preschooler and oh ya, I have 4 children that make sure my house is always messy and I am always needing to feed someone…just to name a few…I have decided it would be a fun idea to bake my way through a cookbook.
You know like Julie and Julia, that movie?
Only I am not brave enough to attempt to go through the Art of French Cooking. Maybe someday, but personally, Aspics terrify me.
Although that is one of my favorite cookbooks. I just tend to gravitate towards the cream recipes and boeuf bourguignon. Funny, I have never posted those…Hmmm. I should do that.
So I had been thinking about how fun it would be to do something like that but on a smaller scale.
Then I happened into the office at my son’s school for something and the amazing secretary there, Mrs. Birkelo, loves to bake cakes as much as I do and she started telling about these fun little vintage cake and dessert cookbooks she found at an antique store and offered to let me borrow them.
How fun!
So I did. The recipes sounded enchanting and different and fun.
Then I remembered I wanted to go through a cookbook, and considering how I adore making (and eating) cakes this book seemed like the perfect thing.
I found the book on Amazon, since I forgot to take a picture of the book before I returned it, it’s called:
Cakes & Tortes: 193 Sweet Treats forEvery Occasion
It’s such a darling little book, it has all these illustrations of girls in tea dresses and cute cakes and things. So fun!
I am not sure how many recipe there are in the book especially since there are quite a few cakes that have a few different variations. So we shall see how many variations I do of each cake but my plan is to do one cake per week.
Some of the cakes are simple, the first one is a bundt or tube type cake so that’s pretty simple but it will get more complicated.
Isn’t this a great idea?!
Especially since I am still trying to loose those last few baby-weight pounds…oh well, I am sure I can find plenty of people to help me eat them.
So I as I post the recipes I will list them at the bottom of this post so you can go straight to them from here but you will also be able to locate them in the Dessert section in the menu.
Alright so here we go!
