Making vanilla sugar is SUPER easy and making it yourself makes it affordable. William-Sonoma charges $19 for 8oz!!!! If you make it yourself, it costs the amount of the sugar and vanilla bean.
2 cups sugar
1 vanilla bean
This is so easy. Pour the sugar into an air tight container. Cut the vanilla bean, lengthwise, in half. Scrape the seeds out and place in the jar with the vanilla and then put the pod in as well. Place the lid on the jar and seal it. Give it a couple good shakes to mix in the vanilla and let it set for about 2 weeks. You will know it's done because the sugar will turn a brownish color.
You can use vanilla sugar in your coffee or bake with it to give your baked goods a stronger vanilla flavor.
